As I woke up this morning, I was disappointed to find that despite warnings of inches and inches of snow, school would be in session. As much as I don't want to have a 3 day spring break, I don't really mind either way. I already have a trip planned for spring break, so I won't be here either way.
Today, I took the time to try and complete all the work that I planned to do today during the snow day. I finished our Pyramus and Thisbe assignment, and I'm actually pretty proud of the results.
As I was feverishly trying to do work, I got to thinking; why do I hold things off until the last minute? Going into this weekend, I knew I wanted to finish a lot of work so that I wouldn't have to do it during the week. I had time on Saturday to do work, but I wasn't completely motivated to do anything until last night, when I realized that the possibility of a snow day today was diminishing. What causes people to procrastinate?
Based on this article, people procrastinate for many different reasons. Some assume that a task will take less time then it actually does. Others get distracted by other things, such as Twitter. People assume that they are in the wrong frame of mind to work, don't have the motivation to do anything unless they are in a time crunch, or do not have very much self-discipline.
Personally, I believe that I act under a combination of all these things. I spend too much time organizing and re-organizing things like the order in which I'll do something, and spend little time actually doing.
At this point, I'm too lazy to change my ways. I'm going to go back to Twitter now.
